Assessment Moving forwards from difficulties

Our Service

Clinical assessment is a way of diagnosing and planning treatment for you, that involves evaluating someone in order to figure out what is ‘wrong’.

There are many types of psychological assessments, all of which have their own strengths and weaknesses. We offer a range of assessment options.

Our Assessment process

Firstly, you will have a one off consultation to discuss treatment options. During the session we gather a brief history, and formulate an agreement as to the way forwards. Then discuss recommendations, but will not offer ‘imperatives’.

We are also able to offer in depth clinical assessments of therapeutic need. These assessments require five sessions, with a formal review, and the use of clinical instruments to measure difficulties.

Using a range of models and evidence bases, a custom report is created, which can be shared with Courts, local authorities, and/or health services.

Our aim is to help you understand any difficulties, how these are caused, and provide information to help you move forwards. As experts in the field, our team are able to provide you with a robust understanding of your options.

Risk assessments can be provided to individuals or organisations. Our experience covers assessing sexually harmful behaviour, domestic abuse, and risk of harm resulting from abuse and/or neglect. With a specialism in recovery from trauma.

Primary options

1. Assessment of Therapeutic need

A five session piece of assessment work, at our offices in Halifax, where we help you and any agency involved with you, think about your therapeutic needs. This assessment can be helpful in supporting you to consider your history in more detail, and to think about how your experiences may have impacted you today.

We normally use a range of assessment techniques such as questionnaires, interviews, and observations. We will situate the assessment within a strong evidence base, and provide comprehensive solutions to moving forwards. This piece of work is usually commissioned through organisations such as a local authority, but can be commissioned privately.

2. Risk assessment

This is a five session assessment, where we explore the concerns that an agency may have about you, and to look at ways in which any identified risks can be safely managed.

Concerns could cover, say, harmful behaviour to others, perceived harm to self, and the connection between harm and offending. We may use specific assessment tools, alongside interviews and observations. This piece of work is usually commissioned through organisations such as a local authority, but can be commissioned privately.

Please contact us for further details.

3. Parenting Capacity

Sometimes agencies such as local authorities may have concerns about your capacity to parent. This may have resulted in care proceedings, and your children may even be residing elsewhere (ie foster care).

An independent assessment can sometimes be helpful in supporting the Courts and local authority in thinking about any perceived risks. We are also able to offer kitchen and contact facilities to support this assessment process.

This piece of work is usually commissioned through organisations such as a local authority, but can be commissioned privately.

Please contact us for further details, or pass our details to your solicitor.

4. 1-to-1 Consultation

This is our bespoke individual consultation. We spend a session with you, discussing your history, your concerns, and we will help you think about the primary therapeutic modalities, and agree some recommendations for the future.

We will use a range of approaches such as motivational interviewing and coaching. You can either move forwards with the recommendations or not.

Sometimes, this is all we need to help us become unstuck from where we were.
